Silent Payments

Also · BIP352 · Static address

Silent Payments, BIP352, let you publish 1 static address that every payer turns into a different on-chain output, so donations and recurring payments no longer reuse an address.

Publishing a Bitcoin address on a website means every donation lands on the same address, visible to all. Silent Payments fix this without any back-and-forth. The recipient publishes a static address starting with sp1. The payer’s wallet combines it with its own input keys to derive a fresh, unique Taproot output that only the recipient can recognise and spend.

The cost falls on the recipient, who must scan the chain for payments instead of watching known addresses, which light wallets handle with varying efficiency. The specification reached “complete” status in 2026, but support still varies by wallet, and sending, detecting and recovering must each be checked for a given app. It needs no soft fork.
